The Viral High School Commit is Still Playing

The Story of Jacob Copeland

Where are they now? Jacob Copeland, the 4 star recruit who’s mother walked out during his signing day?

For starters Jacob doesn't have your standard football story.

His childhood home was in a crime-ridden neighborhood and at 12 years old he even had to move in with his coach at one point. I couldn’t imagine having to live with my own coach! Could you?

Despite these hurdles, Jacob became a 4 star recruit committing to the University of Florida in 2018.

And his signing day would go viral after his mother walked out after Jacobs selection. People thought his mom Betty Copeland was upset because of the gang relations that Jacob had in Florida, which was denied, as she said that “she wanted Jacob to play for her hometown team in Alabama, and he changed his mind without telling her.”

So Jacob redshirted his freshman year at Florida and started in the 2021 season recording 38 catches for 607 yards and 4 touchdowns. But after this season he transferred to Maryland, recording 422 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Jacob caught the eye of NFL scouts and got an invitation to the NFL combine, later signing with the TN Titans as an undrafted free agent. He would later join the Minnesota Vikings, and then the Pittsburgh Steelers, getting waived from their practice squad in October 2023.

But he till hasn’t given up, because on January 10, 2024, Copeland signed a reserve/future contract with the Kansas City Chiefs But according to the Chiefs website, Jacob Copland didn’t make the final roster and was waived on May 4, 2024

Where will he play next?
