From Undrafted to NFL Star

How did Taysom Hill do it?

How did Taysom Hill go from an Undrafted free agent to a Legend for the New Orleans Saints?

In the heart of Pocatello, Idaho, in a small town, the soon to be NFL Star and hometown hero was born. Taysom Hill was raised with a passion for outdoors and sports, growing up with four-wheelers, camping trips, hunting, and fishing. It was in this environment that Hill's competitive spirit began to shine, as he quickly became one of the top athletes in his town.

From an early age, Hill was a standout on the field. “I grew up with a ball in my hand,”. Being one of the younger kids in the neighborhood, Hill was often chosen to play with the older kids. The small, tight-knit community of Pocatello, with its deep love for sports, watched him develop and grow up over the years to soon become one of the best high school athletes in the state.

Highland High School in Pocatello is where Hill's rise in football started. But he wasn’t just a football player, Hill excelled in basketball and track as I am sure being in a small town, this allowed Hill to excel in a variety of sports, but ultimately stuck with football. Initially a wide receiver, Hill's knowledge of the position translated into becoming an even better quarterback. This position change would help Hill lead the Highland Rams to a state title in 2008.

As a senior, Hill was the top dual threat quarterback in the state, passing for 2,269 yards and rushing for 1,491, His 42 combined touchdowns earned him Idaho Gatorade High School Player of the Year honors, and broke several Highland High’s records for total offense.

Hill played college football at (BYU) from 2012 to 2016 and was known for his exceptional rushing ability as a quarterback, which would help him in his future career.

With high hopes Hill entered the 2017 NFL Draft but went undrafted. Soon, Hill was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent and participated in the Packers' preseason activities. He showed promise, but was ultimately waived during the final roster cuts before the regular season. The New Orleans Saints then claimed Hill off waivers in September of 2017.

The Saints saw potential in Hill’s versatility and athleticism. Head coach Sean Payton recognized Hill’s unique skill set, envisioning him as a valuable multi-role player, soon becoming the “Swiss army knife for the saints”

Since then he has recorded 1,622 passing yards with a 62% completion rate and 33 total touchdowns.

I personally love him on special teams, I mean he has 14 tackles as a special teams player with a blocked punt. Not a bad resume for the NFL’s most versatile player.
